Graphic Designer - Part-time

The Cal Poly Corporation Marketing & Communication department has an immediate opening for a Graphic Designer to join their creative team. Candidates must have a passion for collaboration with students and creative experience in the offline as well as the online world. This position is ideal for an experienced design professional looking for part-time employment in a dynamic university environment.

Qualifications / Duties

  • Work up to 20 hours per week, on an as-needed basis
  • Work on site
  • 3+ years of design experience
  • An intimate knowledge of industry tools, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
  • Lead with creation, conception, and execution of digital and print visual design, typography, logos, icons, and other interactive platforms
  • Retail POS/POP, signage design and branding experience preferred, UX design and photography skills considered a plus
  • Collaborate, communicate, discuss actively in contributing ideas
  • Participate in photoshoots, video direction, and assist with technical supervision
  • Prepare assets for projects in a manner that meets the specific requirements for the usage of the image
  • Conduct image searches, retouch photos, and resize images to meet different requirements of its use
  • Organize and maintain files both in client work folders and within each design application that meets best practice standards

Student Programmer

As a Student Programmer with the Cal Poly Corporation, you will gain hands-on experience managing and developing a large suite of web applications. This is a fantastic opportunity for a tech-savvy student looking to develop "real world" skills and learn industry standard front-end development tools such as Git, Foundation, Vagrant, Node.js and WordPress as well as the standard command line. All work will be performed on the OS X platform. This position entails very little (if any) design work. Seeking a quick learner who is willing to learn from his/her mistakes, and learn by doing.

Qualifications / Duties

  • Able to work 10-40 hours/week
  • Currently enrolled at Cal Poly with sophomore, junior or senior standing
  • HTML coding experience
  • CSS coding experience
  • JS coding experience( or desire to learn it )
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new tools and technologies
  • Familiarity with the PC platform

Student Motion Graphics/Videographer

This position requires someone who is a quick and nimble video editor with strong design and conceptual skills. Ideal candidate is an Art and Design major, Graphic Communications major or Marketing major who multitasks easily.

Responsibilities include:

  • Take direction from Marketing lead
  • Conception of basic marketing ideas
  • Apply basic design skills to assignments
  • Collaboration and brainstorming with team
  • Manage work load
  • Accept direction and make changes as needed
  • Meet deadlines


  • Able to work 10-12 hours/week
  • Currently enrolled at Cal Poly with sophomore, junior or senior standing
  • Fluency in Adobe After Effects video and visual effects software
  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Video Editing software


We are seeking enthusiastic students to represent University Store and Campus Dining in various print and digital marketing campaigns. This is a volunteer, ongoing open position. We will be accepting applications throughout the year.


  • All models must sign a release form on set the day of the shoot
  • All models must be at least 18 years of age, or receive parent/guardian approval via signature
  • No experience required, but talent must be comfortable in front of the camera and able to take direction
