Content Guidelines

While content development is specific to the display device (i.e. display type and location) you are using, there are some general guidelines for development.

Images

Acceptable formats: JPEG, *PNG, BMP, PDF

*PNG graphics are prefered since thy provide transparency for layering.

Unsupported formats: Photoshop (PSD), Illustrator (AI), Microsoft Office Products (Powerpoint, Word, Publisher)

Color Profile: RGB (CMYK must be converted to RGB before deployment)

Resolution & Aspect Ratios

Resolution is determined by your display device. For example - if the default resolution of your device is 1920x1080, then your content elements must be within those constraints.

Most display devices will be presented in a 16x9 aspect ratio.

Landscape vs. Portrait: Both are acceptable and depend on your installation.

Video Content

Video content requries sepecific formating to ensure smooth playing on all screens

  • Plaza Video Wall Screen Size: 1920x1620
  • Screen Size: 1280x768 (CPC Displays) or 1920x1080 (Standard)
  • NTSC
  • h.264 MP4 at 29.97fps
  • Aspect Ratio Square
  • Profile High
  • Render Max Depth
  • Level 5.1

Adobe Flash

Flash (SWF) content should not contain audio or reference external content. We recommend content be rendered compatible with older versions of the Flash Player to ensure backward comparability.

Software for Graphic Development

Recommended Programs: Photoshop, Illustrator, GIMP (Free), Microsoft Publisher

Microsoft Word: Do not use. This is not a graphic design program.

Powerpoint: As many faculty and staff are familiar with Microsoft Powerpoint, it is important to note that powerpoint slides can be saved as image files, however, they will not save at a resolution high enough for this purpose on a PC without modification. This being the case, it is recommended that those who still wish to use Microsoft Office become familiar with Microsoft Publisher because it is a better program for this application

Style Guide & Univeristy Branding

Sample image of background template

For videos and images, few style guidelines are applicable. However, University departmental signs must conform to the University style guidelines (see graphic). The basic signage templates provide a pre-branded background image and color palate in both 1920x1080 and 1280x768 format (formatted for horizontal or vertical deployment).
